CP's Kline; CSUN's Gavirolva Honored as Athletes of the Week
A three-time winner and a first time recipient highlighted the Big West weekly swim awards this week as Cal Poly's Peter Kline and Cal State Northridge's Yulia Gavrilova were named the Men's and Women's Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Kline, who hails from from Fresno, Calif., was stellar in the Mustangs' dual meet against league rival UC Santa Barbara. The junior won three events during the meet, the 100 back (50.96), 200 back (1:49.36) and the 200 IM (1:51.90). The times in the 200 back and 200 IM are the fastest in the conference.
Gavrilova, a native of Omsk, Russia, was impressive for the Matadors at the Toshiba Classic. The junior recorded marks of 56.10 in the 100 fly, 2:06.37 in the 200 fly, 2:06.15 in the 200 IM, 57.76 in the 100 back and 2:04.88 in the 200 back. All of those times are top 10 marks in program history in each discipline, while her 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly and 200 IM times are second-best in the league to this point in the 09-10 campaign.
