Cal Poly Takes Men's Swiming Weekly Honor; Women's Award Split

Cal Poly continued its early haul of the swimming weekly honors as the Mustangs took the men's honor and split the women's award.

Matt Waggoner claimed the accolade on the men’s side for Cal Poly after an impressive showing in the Mustangs' dual triple-distance meet against UC Santa Barbara. The junior won three events during the competition, the 200 free (1:47.05), 500 free (4:37.61) and 1000 free (9:30.38).

The women's weekly accolade was split between Lacy Buck of Cal Poly and Jessica Schwalb of UC Santa Barbara.

Buck, who was the 2008-09 Big West Women's Freshman of the Year, won a pair of events in the dual against UCSB. The native of Lakewood, Calif., won the 500 free (5:05.00) and 1000 free (10:17.83).

Schwalb, a senior from Ridgecrest, Calif., won all three of her individual medley events in the battle against Cal Poly. She swam the 100 IM in 1:00.85, 200 IM in 2:08.00 and 400 IM in 4:28.02.
