Matadors Defeated 2-0 by San Diego in Season Opener

For the first two-thirds of the game, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (0-1-0) and University of San Diego Toreros (1-0-0) battled one another in an effort to light up the scoreboard first. Unfortunately for CSUN, the host team was able to accomplish this twice in the latter portion of the contest at the Toreros defeated the Matadors by a score of 2-0 Tuesday evening.

San Jose State scored four straight goals to overcome a 1-0 deficit on its way to a 4-1 victory Tuesday night in a non-conference men's soccer game at Spartan Stadium. Freshman John Joslin scored the lone Aggie goal in the first half as UC Davis opened its 2009 season.

Gauchos Take Down Bakersfield in Season Opener

The 10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team (1-0-0) officially opened the 2009 season Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over visiting Cal State Bakersfield (0-1-0) at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. As was the case in the Gauchos' only preseason exhibition game against Westmont on Aug. 22, freshman Michael Nonni led the team with two goals and senior Martin Hedevag put away one.

A pass through the box by UNLV junior forward Stephen Sifuentes in the 109th minute from a free kick resulted in a match-winning goal for freshman forward Nick Marshall as the Rebels spoiled the No. 23 Cal Poly men’s soccer team’s season-opening contest with a 1-0, double-overtime victory Tuesday evening in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
