UC Irvine and Cal Poly Finish In Top 100 Of Directors Cup

The Big West had two schools - UC Irvine and Cal Poly - finish among the top 100 in the final 2008-09 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
The Directors' Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Learfield Sports and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country, according to their finishes in postseason play.
UC Irvine led all Big West schools with a ranking of No. 65, posting 315.30 points. The Anteaters gained the maximum number of 100 points by winning a national championship in men's volleyball. They also fared well in men's soccer, picking up 64 points following a trip to the Sweet 16. UCI also recorded tallies in men's swimming and diving, baseball, and men's and women's golf.
Cal Poly finished No. 85 in the final standings on the strength of postseason appearances in men's cross country, men's soccer, wrestling, baseball, softball, and women's track and field. The Mustangs also accumulated points for reaching the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. Cal Poly racked up 50 points apiece in both men's soccer and softball.
Other Big West schools appearing in the final standings included Long Beach State (103), UC Santa Barbara (110), Cal State Fullerton (150), UC Davis (153), UC Riverside (197) and Cal State Northridge (235).
