UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton Set To Host NCAA Regionals

The NCAA Division I Baseball Committee announced the 16 regional sites for the 63rd annual NCAA Division I Baseball Championship and Big West Conference Champion UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton were selected to host two of the regionals. This is the first time the Anteaters have received the honor of hosting the NCAA Regionals, while the Titans prepare for their eighth regional at Goodwin Field.

Cal State Fullerton owns an impressive 23-6 record when playing in front of its home crowd during regional competition.  Opening postseason play at home for the first time, UC Irvine is looking to capitalize on its 20-4 record at Anteater Ballpark this season, which included a perfect 12-0 conference mark.

The 16 regional sites are as follows: Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, Clemson, East Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech,  LSU, Louisville, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rice, Texas, TCU and UC Irvine. Each regional field features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. All 16 regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, May 29, to Monday, June 1.

The remaining at-large teams, top-eight national seeds, first-round regional pairings and site assignments will be announced at 9:30 Pacific time, Monday, May 25, during a live program on ESPN. The committee will set the entire 64-team bracket through both the super regionals and the first round of the Men’s College World Series and will not reseed the field after play begins. Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on www.ncaasports.com, Monday, June 1 at approximately 8 p.m. (PDT).

Thirty Division I conferences receive an automatic berth in the field of 64, along with 34 at-large selections. The 63rd Men’s College World Series begins play Saturday, June 13 at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
