UC Irvine sits in ninth place and UC Davis is tied for 10th following the second round of the NCAA West Regional at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif.

Arizona State leads at 22-under-par 554 for 36 holes after shooting a 13-under 275 in the second round Friday. Oregon is second at 560 and San Diego is third at 566. UCI shot one-under 287 and is ninth at 576.

UCI junior John Chin shot two-under 70 and is in 13th place at three-under 141. Sophomore Max Greil also shot a 70 and is 20th at 143. Senior Sean Shahi fired a second round total of 73 and freshman Roberto Francioni carded 74 to tie for 42nd place with a two-day total of 146. Sophomore Bryan Harris recorded an 80 and is 73rd at 154.

The UC Davis Aggies, who opened the 54-hole tournament on Thursday with a 10-over 298, improved by 13 strokes in the second round and are tied with Oregon State at seven-over 583.

UC Davis, which won its first-ever Big West Conference Championship in April, had two players go below par and no score above 74 during its round at the 6,849-yard layout on Friday. Senior Ramie Sprinkling fired a three-under-par 69 to tie for 35th and freshman Tyler Raber carded a total of 70.

Senior Nate Pistacchio and junior Brent Booth each shot 73 on Friday, carding three birdies each. Sophomore Austin Graham posted his second straight 74, highlighting his round with two birdies and an eagle-3 on the par-5, 496-yard 14th. He's tied for 56th.

Cal Poly junior golfer Geoff Gonzalez, who carded a one-under-par 71 Thursday, slipped to a 76 Friday and dropped from 13th place into a tie for 49th place after the second round of play. Gonzalez, competing in an NCAA Regional for the second time in his Mustang career, recorded four birdies but also bogeyed four holes and carded a pair of double bogeys as well for his four-over-par total.

Representing Cal State Northridge at the NCAA Regional is Nick Delio, who vaulted himself to 27th place after firing a second round four-under-par 68. After finishing the first round tied for 60th with a four-over 76, Delio now holds an even-par total of 144.

Gonzalez and Delio are two of 10 individuals in the field along with 13 teams.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships, to be held May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
