This weekend has the final major meet of the 2009 Big West track & field calendar as UC Irvine hosts the Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.

Named after the former Olympic and UCI athlete Steve Scott, the annual event attracts some of the top athletes in and out of the region for two days of track & field action. The majority of the conference track clubs will be in action at Anteater Stadium as Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State and UC Riverside join UC Irvine for the meet.

In other action, a couple of schools head to rivals for dual meets in the first weekend in May. Cal Poly will ready itself for a trip to Santa Barbara as it takes on UC Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon. A day prior to the meet between those Central Coast rivals, the spotlight will be on Sacramento as UC Davis travels to the state captial to take on long-time rival Sacramento State in the Causeway Classic Dual. The winner of that competition gets points towards the coveted Causeway Cup, an annual trophy given to the school which accumulates the most points across all UCD/CSUS athletic events.

A few other schools will find themselves in Northern California over the weekend as Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara sent contingents to Stanford for the Payton Jordan Classic.

The meet, which is named after recently deceased track icon Payton Jordan, will be attended by some of the top athletes in the collegiate and professional ranks, including several Olympic athletes.
