Big West baseball and softball enter their final weeks of regular season play!

Fifteen contests in baseball and softball comprise the BigWest.TV schedule this week as baseball transitions to the last month of regular-season play and softball enters its final two weeks.  National No. 1 UC Irvine sits atop the baseball standings with an 11-1 conference record, while national No. 22 Cal Poly controls the top of the softball standings at 13-2.

Baseball

League-leading UC Irvine will host USC on Tuesday, April 28 beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT.  The No. 1-ranked Anteaters won two of three contests last week at Utah.  Also on Tuesday, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (6-6, 5th) face Cal State Bakersfield at 2:00 p.m., while the No. 12 Cal Poly Mustangs (10-5, 2nd) meet defending national champions Fresno State.  The Gauchos and Mustangs clashed last weekend in Santa Barbara, with Cal Poly taking two of three.

The Cal State Fullerton Titans (9-6, 3rd) host USC for a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 29 at Goodwin Field.  Fullerton swept UC Davis (1-11, 9th) to extend their winning streak to six games over the weekend.

The final month of conference play begins on Friday, May 1 with the openers of two series: Cal State Northridge at UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara at Cal State Fullerton.  The Matadors and ‘Eaters get started at 6:00 p.m., while the Gauchos and Titans see their first pitch beginning at 7:00 p.m.  In non-conference action, Cal Poly will host San Francisco at 6:00 p.m.

Both conference series will continue their on Saturday, May 2, with Cal State Northridge and UC Irvine starting at 1:00 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton beginning at 6:00 p.m.

***NOTE:  Games 2 and 3 of the Cal Poly-USF series and Game 3 of the UC Santa Barbara-Cal State Fullerton series will not air on BigWest.TV because of scheduling conflicts with Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton softball at their respective institutions.***

Softball

No. 22 Cal Poly (34-9, 13-2 Big West) takes the field this week against Pacific (2-13 in conference, 8th) on Saturday, May 2.  The Mustangs and Tigers will face off in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon.  League-leading Cal Poly is coming off a sweep of UC Davis that moved them into sole possession of first place, while Pacific took just one of three from UC Santa Barbara (6-9, T-5th) at home last weekend.

Also on Saturday, the Cal State Fullerton Titans (11-4, 2nd) will host Cal State Northridge (7-8, 4th) for two.  The Titans fell out of first over the weekend after losing two of three to Long Beach State (10-5, 3rd) and are looking to rebound against the Matadors, who swept UC Riverside (6-9, T-5th) over the weekend.

The concluding games of the Cal Poly-Pacific and Cal State Fullerton-Cal State Northridge series will air on Sunday, May 3, beginning at 12:00 noon.
