A pair of super sophomores came away with the Big West weekly softball accolades this time around as Cal State Fullerton's Torrie Anderson and Long Beach State's Brooke Turner won the Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively.
Anderson Driving Force in Titan Sweep over Pacific
Cal State Fullerton outfielder Torrie Anderson (Castaic, Calif./Valencia HS) was a major run producer in the Titans' three-game sweep over Pacific, netting her Big West Player of the Week accolades.
The sophomore opened the series with two hits in four at-bats against the Tigers, none bigger than her walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to give CSF a 4-0 win.
Anderson continued her torrid hitting with a two-run homer in the sixth frame of game two that gave the Titans the lead in an eventual 4-3 victory. She wrapped up the series with another clutch hit in the finale, an RBI single in the fifth inning that erased a 1-0 deficit on the way to a 4-1 Titan win.
For the series, Anderson hit .400 (4-10) with two home runs and seven RBI. Her two long bombs give her nine this year, tied for second in the Big West with teammate Francesca Gonzales.
