The Big West Conference is excited to announce that the inaugural Big West Women’s Water Polo Tournament will air live on BigWest.TV this weekend, in addition to six regular-season baseball games. This spring saw the addition of women’s water polo as the 18th sport in the league’s lineup, and the first Big West regular-season title was shared by the trio of Cal State Northridge, UC Davis, and UC Irvine. In baseball action, No. 3 UC Irvine continues their impressive play while continuing to lead the conference with a record of 11-1.

The 2009 Big West Conference Women's Water Polo Championship will take place Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool on the University of the Pacific campus. The tournament format includes the top two seeds receiving a bye and the bottom four seeds playing in Friday's opening round. Semifinal matches take place on Saturday, while the tournament concludes on Sunday with a championship match, third place match and fifth place match.
On Friday, April 24, the first match of the day will see #4-seed UC Santa Barbara taking on the #5-seed Pacific at 4:00 p.m. PT. Scheduled at 5:45 p.m., the second match will feature #3 UC Irvine and #6 Long Beach State.
The winners of Friday night’s matches will advance to the semifinal round on Saturday, April 25, with the winner of the UCSB-UOP contest facing #1 seed Cal State Northridge at 4:00 p.m. #2 seed UC Davis will then face the winner of the UCI-LBSU match at 5:45 p.m.
Day 3 of the tournament will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, with the losers of the UCSB-UOP and UCI-LBSU games squaring off for fifth-place. The third-place consolation game will begin at 2:00 p.m., with the championship final set to start at 3:45 p.m.
The entire tournament will air free of charge.
Conference leader and national No. 3 UC Irvine will host Oregon on Monday, April 20 in Game 1 of a two-game series. UCI swept UC Riverside last weekend to improve their Big West-best record to 26-10 overall. First pitch from Anteater Ballpark is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The ‘Eaters and Ducks will play Game 2 of their non-conference set on Tuesday, April 21. An early start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Also on Tuesday, the No. 6 Cal State Fullerton Titans will host San Diego beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Titans (6-6) are currently in fifth place in the Big West, after losing their first series ever to Pacific over the weekend.
Friday, April 24 sees the start of a three-game conference series between the Pacific Tigers and the Long Beach State Dirtbags. Game 1 of the series is scheduled to begin at 5:35 p.m. at Klein Family Field. Game 2 will be played on Saturday, April 25 at 5:35 p.m., while the concluding game of the set will air on Sunday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m.
