Get the latest news out of San Luis Obispo straight from the mouths of the Cal Poly head coaches and student-athletes each week with the Cal Poly weekly press conferences.  This week, hear from baseball coach Larry Lee, softball coach Jenny Condon, and track & field director Terry Crawford.

The Cal Poly baseball team enters the week at 17-7 with national rankings of No. 16 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and No. 23 by Baseball America.  Coach Larry Lee’s team heads into the week looking to bounce back from a series loss to the UC Irvine Anteaters last weekend.  The Mustangs will face USC before opening a Big West Conference series against the Cal State Northridge Matadors Friday through Sunday, April 3-5.  Games 1 (Friday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m. PT) and 3 (Sunday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. PT) will be available on BigWest.TV.

Coach Jenny Condon’s squad is 22-9 overall and is a half-game behind Cal State Northridge for the best overall record in the Big West.  However, following their break into the national rankings two weeks ago while riding a 13-game winning streak, the Mustangs have lost 3 of their last 6.  The Mustang women will face UC Santa Barbara for a three-game set this weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4 (4:00 p.m.) and concluding on Sunday, April 5 (12:00 noon).  Saturday’s two games will be available on BigWest.TV.

The Cal Poly track & field team spent last weekend at the Cal-Nevada Championships hosted by UCLA.  On the women’s side, Julie Dufresne won the women’s discuss while Jasmine Pickett took second in the triple jump.  Jarred Houston finished fifth in the 100 for the men, while Brandon Shirck took fifth in the 1,500.  This weekend, the Mustangs host the Cal Poly Invitational, their final home meet of the season.  The Mustangs will also be honored to have Cal Poly alumnus and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Brown Trafton competing alongside them.  The Cal Poly Invitational will begin on Friday, April 3.
