UCD's Weltz Earns Second All-America Honor at NCAA Championships
UC Davis' Scott Weltz wrapped up his 2008-09 collegiate swim season with his second All-America honor at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday. The meet was held at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
Weltz finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 200-yard breaststroke and placed 16th overall to earn his second honorable mention All-American honors of the 2009 NCAA meet. He went 1:55.11 during the prelims of the 200 breast to gain a spot in the consolation finals. He finished his second swim in 1:57.11,
Weltz's prelim time was his second-fastest mark of the season and was just 0.20 seconds off his school-record time. During the finals of the 200 breast, Georgia's Neil Versfeld broke NCAA and US Open records in a time of 1:51.40.
Weltz also earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 individual medley during the first day of the championships.
