The race for national championships and All-America honors begin this week in the heart of Texas as the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships are set to commence. The National Championships are being held at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
The conference will have a quintent of athletes from UC Santa Barbara as well as single representatives from UC Davis and Pacific in competition. The group from UCSB is comprised of senior Katy Freeman and sophomore Sara Nicponski, who will be competing in the 100 and 200 breast as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays. Junior Anne Marie May will swim in the 50 and 100 free and will anchor the medley relays. Junior Naomi Javanifard will swim the backstroke legs of the medley relays and will also compete in the 100 back. Rounding out the group is senior Erin Yamamoto, who will swim the butterfly leg in the medley relays.
Junior Heidi Kucera will be the first Aggie to make the D-I championships when she heads down this weekend to compete in three events, the 200 IM and the 100 and 200 breast. Meanwhile, senior Jenny Lewis gives the Tigers a representative in two events, the 50 free and 100 back.
