Pacific is one of 16 teams competing in the first annual CollegeInsider.com Tournament and hosts Portland in the first round on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m.
The tournament consists of 15 games: Eight first-round games, four second-round games, two semi-final games and a championship game. In an effort to minimize travel and missed class time, teams will be bracketed geographically. Future opponents will be determined at the conclusion of each round of the tournament.
Pacific and Portland posted identical 19-12 records this season. The teams have not met in nearly 20 years, when the Tigers posted an 80-66 home victory on Nov. 29, 1989. Pacific leads the all-time series 19-8, including a 13-2 mark on its home floor.
The Tigers lost to Cal State Northridge in the championship game of the Big West Tournament, falling 71-66 in overtime on Saturday. In the regular season, Pacific tied for second place with Long Beach State in the Big West standings at 10-6. Portland finished third in the West Coast Conference.
This is the sixth different opponent from the WCC that the Tigers will have faced this season. Pacific is 3-2 in its five previous matchups.
With a win, Pacific would clinch its fifth 20-win season in the last six years.
The game will air LIVE on BigWest.TV as part of the BigWest.TV package or on a pay-per-view basis.
