Get all the latest news from San Luis Obispo with the Cal Poly weekly press conferences. This week, hear from women’s basketball coach Faith Mimnaugh and senior forward Megan Harrison, men’s basketball coach Kevin Bromley, and baseball coach Larry Lee. All four press conferences are now available on BigWest.TV.
The Cal Poly women’s basketball team is currently in third place in the Big West Conference, four games behind league-leading UC Santa Barbara and a half-game up on fourth-place Pacific. The Mustangs fell to UCSB last weekend in a narrow 4-point game and head to Stockton this weekend to take on the Tigers on Saturday, February 21 at 4:00 p.m. PT. But before their match-up with Pacific, Cal Poly will have to face 2008 Big West Tournament finalist UC Davis at the Pavilion on Thursday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. Hear what coach Faith Mimnaugh and senior Megan Harrison have to say about their loss to the Gauchos, and what lies ahead for them this weekend. Both of the Mustangs’ games this week will be broadcast live on BigWest.TV.
The Mustang men’s basketball team also fell last weekend to the Gauchos, by an even closer 2-point margin of defeat. Currently a half-game behind the Gauchos and in the ninth slot in the conference standings, Cal Poly will have to rally over the final three weeks of the season to make it back into the Big West Tournament picture. They’ll start on Wednesday, February 18 when they host the fifth-place UC Davis Aggies in both teams’ lone conference game of the week. On Saturday, February 21, the Big West Conference will take place in the seventh-annual ESPNU BracketBusters event. The Mustangs will host South Dakota State of the Summit League. Coach Kevin Bromley gives his thoughts on the conference race and this week’s games, both of which will be available on BigWest.TV.
Spring is in the air and that means the “ping” of baseball bats as the 2009 baseball season gets started this Friday. The Mustangs will open their season against No. 3 Rice with a single game on Friday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m. and a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This year’s edition of the Mustang baseball squad brings back a number of key players and is picked to finish fifth in the Big West Conference preseason poll. Coach Larry Lee gives his first press conference of the season as the Mustangs look to avenge a sweep by the Owls in 2007. The first and second games of the series will be available on BigWest.TV free of charge as a two-week introductory special for fans.
Coach Lee and senior OF Ryan Lee as well as the rest of the Big West also give their thoughts on the new season in the Big West’s 2009 Baseball Season Previews, available here.
