The Mustangs men’s hoops team fell in their lone game last week, 68-79 to Cal State Northridge after sweeping the Northern California teams the week before. This week, they will travel south to face UC Irvine on Thursday, February 5 (7:05 p.m. PT) and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, February 7 (6:05 p.m.). Both games will be available on BigWest.TV.
Cal Poly women’s basketball won their game against Cal State Northridge last week, improving to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play. They are tied with UC Santa Barbara for best overall record in the Big West and are currently tied with Pacific for third in the league standings. Coach Faith Mimnaugh’s squad will play both of their games at home this week, welcoming UC Irvine on Thursday, February 5 (7:00 p.m.) and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, February 7 (4:00 p.m.). Catch them live on BigWest.TV.
The Big West Swimming & Diving Championships (February 25-28, 2009) are rapidly approaching, and coach Tom Milich’s team will head into their final meet prior to the championships this weekend. The Mustangs will host the Pacific Tigers on Friday, February 6 beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Mustangs defeated UC Santa Cruz in a dual meet last weekend.
Softball season kicks of this weekend, with the coach Jenny Condon’s team picked to finish third in the Big West preseason poll. The Mustangs return five All-Big West honorees, seven position starters and three pitchers from last year’s 24-22 (12-9 Big West) squad that finished third overall in 2008. Just two years removed from their first Big West Conference title in 2007, the Mustangs open the season on Friday, February 6 against San Diego State (11:30 a.m.) and Purdue (2:00 p.m.) at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament in Los Angeles. The tournament runs through Sunday, February 8.
