A few Big West baseball coaches from Southern California will trade their ball caps for chef hats Saturday, Jan. 24 at ESPN Zone in the Downtown Disney District® as they compete in the first-ever NCAA Baseball Coaches Cook-Off.
Competing from the Big West in the "Iron Chef" style competition will be Cal State Fullerton's Dave Serrano, Long Beach State's Mike Weathers, Cal State Northridge's Stephen Rousey, UC Irvine's Mike Gillespie and UC Santa Barbara's Bob Brontsema. They will be joined by other area baseball coaches LMU's Jason Gill, Pepperdine's Steve Rodriguez, USD's Rich Hill and USC's Chad Kreuter.
Coaches will team with an ESPN Zone chef to prepare an entrée in a 20-minute time period and present their creations to a panel of judges. The dishes will be graded on presentation, creativity and taste. Along with the always important bragging rights, coaches will be vying for top honors in all three categories, as well as "Top Chef" billing for the highest overall score.
