Brett Lauer (Concord, CA/Mesa College/Clayton Valley HS) utilized his long distance talents to net his first career Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week award as his career-high tying seven three-pointers led the Anteaters to a win in their league opener.
Lauer, a 6-1 guard, netted a career-high 27 points in UCI's 78-74 victory in overtime against Cal State Fullerton. Lauer made 9 of 14 shots from the field in helping the Anteaters snap a four-game home losing streak.
He scored 22 of his points in the first stanza as UCI owned a 10-point lead at the break. After the Titans whittled UCI's lead to one in overtime, Lauer knocked down a three with 3:26 left to give the Anteaters a 71-67 advantage.
Lauer hit his seven threes in 12 attempts while adding five rebounds, an assist and a steal in 40 minutes of action.
He ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game and fourth in the Big West with a .491 three-point field goal percentage.
