Big West Honors 122 Student-Athletes On 2008 Fall All-Academic Team

A total of 122 student-athletes from nine member institutions were honored on the 2008 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic Team today for the sports of women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's cross country. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Women's soccer led all sports with 37 student-athletes and women's cross country had 35 recognized. Nineteen women's volleyball student-athletes earned all-academic accolades. Men's cross country and men's soccer each accumulated 17 and 14 all-academic honorees, respectively.
UC Irvine led all Big West institutions with 24 Fall All-Academic selections, followed by UC Riverside with 16. UC Davis placed 15 student-athletes on the team, while Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State all tied with 14 apiece. Pacific earned 11 all-academic certificates, followed by Cal Poly with eight and UC Santa Barbara with six.
