A quartet of Big West women's soccer players have been selected to the NSCAA/adidas All-West Region Team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Long Beach State sophomore
Lindsay Bullock (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) earned all-region second team honors. Three players claimed spots on the third team, including Long Beach State senior
Hayley Bolt (Lakewood, Calif./Los Alamitos HS), Cal Poly junior
Carrie Andrews (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill HS) and Cal State Fullerton senior
Jenae Gibbens (San Diego, Calif./San Diego State).
Bullock, the 2008 Big West Midfielder of the Year, registered 21 points on 10 goals and an assist. She tied for second in the Big West with teammate Bolt for goals scored, and tied for fourth in points. In addition, Bullock ranked third in the conference in shots (56) and tied for third in game-winning goals (3). Her strike in double overtime at UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 31 gave the 49ers a 2-1 win and the program's third consecutive Big West regular season title.
Bolt finished her decorated 49er career as a three-time All-Big West First Team selection. It is also her third career all-region award. Bolt earned second team accolades in 2006 and garnered a third team nod in each of the last two seasons. She set a career high with 10 goals in 2008, and her 22 points tied a career-best. She ranked third in the Big West in points and second in shots (72). The 2005 Big West Freshman of the Year and 2006 Big West Midfielder of the Year, Bolt tallied 29 goals and 18 assists for her career.
Andrews piggybacked her naming as the 2008 Big West Defensive Player of the Year with her first all-region award. A three-time All-Big West First Team choice, Andrews anchored a Cal Poly defense that allowed just 25 goals in 20 matches. She also contributed on offense, producing seven points on three goals and an assist.
Gibbens became only the second Titan to twice earn all-region acclaim from the NSCAA, as she was also a third team honoree in 2007. She joined former Titan goalkeeper Karen Bardsley, who earned third team honors in 2002 and second team honors in 2006. Gibbens, a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-American, concluded the 2008 season with three goals - all game-winners - and seven assists. She tied for third in the Big West in assists and led the circuit in assists per game (0.37).
