Long Beach State claimed three of the six major awards as the naming of the 2008 Big West Women's Soccer All-Conference Team took place today.  Liz Ramos garnered Goalkeeper of the Year accolades, Lindsay Bullock collected Midfielder of the Year honors and Mauricio Ingrassia took home Coach of the Year hardware.  Other top awards were bestowed upon UC Santa Barbara's Genelle Ives as Offensive Player of the Year, Cal Poly's Carrie Andrews as Defensive Player of the Year and Pacific's Kristina Wavomba as Freshman of the Year.

Ramos (Bakersfield, Calif.) became the first Long Beach State player to earn top goalkeeper honors after leading the Big West in goals against average (0.64) and shutouts (8).  The senior posted a 13-3-2 record in net as the 49ers allowed a league-low 16 goals.  Ramos made 71 saves on the year, including seven against Pacific and six versus UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Tournament.  Her 34 career shutouts is first all-time in Big West history.

Bullock (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tied for fourth in the Big West with 21 points.  Her 10 goals tied for second on the league leaderboard.  The 5-9 midfielder became only the second 49er to accumulate double-digit goals in a season since the program was reinstated in 1998. Bullock also ranked among the Big West leaders in shots (55- 3rd) and game-winning goals (3 - 3rd).  She delivered the game-winning score in LBSU's 2-1 double overtime win at UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 31) that clinched the program's third consecutive regular season title.

Ingrassia culminated his fifth season at Long Beach State with his first Coach of the Year award and NCAA Tournament berth.  He led the 49ers to a 14-4-4 overall record and guided them to their third straight - but first outright - Big West regular season crown as they went unbeaten in conference play (7-0-1).  The 14 wins tied the program's all-time record for wins in a season.  Ingrassia also led LBSU to the most road wins (7) in school history.  Under his tutelage, LBSU is an impressive 53-21-8 in the last four seasons.

Ives (Dana Point, Calif.) made a triumphant return from knee surgery which knocked her out of the entire 2007 campaign, flourishing with nine goals and seven assists as the conference's top offensive player in 2008.  The UC Santa Barbara junior spearheaded a potent offense that amassed 40 goals in 21 games.  She scored five of her nine goals against Big West opponents, including a strike in the Big West Tournament semifinals versus Cal Poly.  Ives led the Big West in shots (78) and ranked second in points (25).  The junior forward also tied for third in assists and fourth in goals league-wide.  Ives is the first Gaucho since Jen Borcich in 2004 to capture the Offensive Player of the Year award.

Andrews (Pleasanton, Calif.) continued a long line of exceptional players on the Cal Poly backline in taking home top defender acclaim.  It was the fifth time since the award began in 2001 that a Mustang nabbed that honor.  In addition to anchoring the defense, Andrews also showcased talent on offense with three goals and an assist.  Andrews scored two of those goals against UC Santa Barbara, the Big West Tournament champion.  Her seven points ranked fifth on the Cal Poly squad.

Wavomba (Encinitas, Calif.) became the first Pacific player to capture the conference's top freshman honor as the team looked for new offense after returning just a combined six goals entering the season.  She responded with a team-high eight goals, three of which were game-winners.  The 5-9 forward tied for sixth in the Big West in goals.  Wavomba notched four of her eight goals in conference action.

Long Beach State (6) and UC Santa Barbara (4) dominated the all-conference first team with a combined 10 players.  The first team also had a familiar flavor as seven players were repeat selections from the 2007 all-conference squad.  Selected as All-Big West First Team members for the third time in their careers were Kim Silos (Long Beach State), Hayley Bolt (Long Beach State), Carrie Andrews (Cal Poly) and Rachael Ritchey (UC Santa Barbara).  Two-time first team all-conference performers include Genelle Ives (UC Santa Barbara), Tessa Lennala (UC Riverside), Sami Svrcek (UC Santa Barbara) and Jenae Gibbens (Cal State Fullerton).
