The first high profile meet on the swimming & diving calendar takes place this weekend as UC Irvine welcomes a litany of schools to the Anteater Aquatics Complex for the UCI/Lincoln Aquatics Shootout.
The host Anteaters, who will be competing for the first time this season, welcome eight men’s teams and 11 women's teams to their home venue. The UCI men will be scored in dual meets against Air Force, Cal Poly and Hawaii in one pool with UC Davis, UNLV, BYU and Cal State Northridge being scored in dual meets in the other pool Friday. Meanwhile, the UC Irvine women will compete with Stanford, Cal Poly, Hawaii, Idaho and Pepperdine Friday with UC Davis, UNLV, BYU, Cal State Northridge and San Diego in the other pool. The top two teams from each pool on the men’s side and the two three teams in the women’s end will compete Saturday for the title.
Aside from the teams competing in Irvine, two more conference teams will dive into the pool for competition this weekend.
UC Santa Barbara's women's contingent continues its tough early season schedule with a Tri Meet against Pac-10 foes Oregon State and UCLA in Los Angeles. A year ago, the Gaucho squad defeated the Beavers, 155-107, then fell to the Bruins by a 160-102 score.
Finally, Pacific heads to the Centennial State for a dual meet against Denver Friday night. The Tigers defeated the Pioneers on the women’s side a year ago, 155-104, and dropped the meet on the men’s side by a 142-120 final.
