UCD's Kucera, Pacific's Quinn Come Away with Weekly Honors
The second swimming & diving weekly awards went to the northern-most schools in the Big West as UC Davis' Heidi Kucera and Pacific's Stephen Quinn claimed Women's and Men's Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Kucera, a sophomore from Atherton, Calif., had a very successful day during the Aggies' Tri Meet against Nevada and Washington State in Reno, Nev. She won the 200 breast (2:18.84) and the 200 IM (2:06.51), while ranking second in the 200 free (1:54.37). The free and IM times are the fastest recorded by a conference athlete this fall and Kucera's effort in the breast is faster than any swim except her effort last week. Her times are also eligible for altitude drops, (1.2 seconds in all 3).
Quinn, a senior who hails from Livermore, Calif., participated in Quad Dual Meets in Bakersfield against Loyola Marymound, Fresno Pacific and host Cal State Bakersfield, finishing in the top three of each of his races. Quinn put in a first place performance in 200 free (1:43.91), setting a season-best effort in the process. He also took third place in the 100 free with another season-best time (48.62) and capped his individual day with a second place showing in the 500 free (4:43.81). He also took part in the 400 free relay, leading the club to a third place finish (3:15.60). His 47.75 split was the fifth-fastest of the 28 total competitors in the race and tops on the club.
