2008-09 Swimming & Diving Season Splashes Onto Big West Scene
Swimming & diving is back on the Big West calendar as the 2008-09 season kicked off in mid-October. Pacific got an early jump on the other conference squads as the Tigers faced off against California in a dual meet and hosted the Pacific Invitational, which included conference foe UC Davis, a week later.
This weekend's docket has three schools hitting the pool, two of which are competing for the first time this season.
Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge will converge on scenic Malibu to compete in the Malibu Invitational. The Mustangs competed in the event a year ago, while the Matadors will be making the first of two trips to the Malibu area this season. This year's meet is sure to be a lot less stressful for all the clubs involved as a year ago wildfires in the area nearly forced the cancellation of the event.
The last team in competition over the weekend will be the Aggies of UC Davis. The team makes the trek to Santa Cruz for a matchup against the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. Last season the UCD men’s contingent won 165-120, while the women’s squad posed a convincing 251-146 victory.
