UC Irvine Moves Up Five Spots At NCAA Championships

UC Irvine crept up five spots to 22nd place after Thursday's second round of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship on the Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Anteaters improved by 23 shots from their opening round 320 on Wednesday, shooting a 9-over 297 Thursday.  UCI's total score through 36 holes is 620 among the 30 competing teams.  The top 15 teams at the conclusion of Friday's third round advance on for one more round on Saturday.  UCI is paired with Wake Forest and Virginia on Friday, teeing off from hole No. 1 at 9:47 a.m. (PDT).

UCI junior Tim Cha carded a 74 Thursday and sits in 44th place at 7-over 151.  Junior Sean Shahi is 85th at 155 after shooting a 75 and sophomore John Chin, who posted an Anteater low round of 73, is in 96th place with a 36-hole total of 156.

Senior Kenny Kim shot a 78 in the second round and is 114th at 158 and freshman Max Greil, with a 75, is 130th at 160.

Clemson took over the team lead at 589, while first round leaders UCLA and USC are now second and third in the standings at 590 and 591, respectively.

The individual leader is Florida's Billy Horschel, who is at 5-under 139.
