UC Davis Tied For 13th At NCAA Women's Golf Championships

UC Davis fired a team score of 298 to finish in a tie for 13th place after the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.  The event is being held at the 6,424-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course.

The Aggies are tied with Arkansas and Purdue in 13th place, 14 shots behind tournament leader USC, who shot a 4-under 284.  UC Davis is just two shots out of being in the top 10 and five shots out of fifth place.  A total of 24 teams are competing at the championship.

Freshman Chelsea Stelzmiller led the Aggies Tuesday with her even par 72.  Her round consisted of two birdies and 14 pars.  After starting 2-over through the first nine holes, Stelzmiller birdied the first and fourth holes to return to even-par.  She closed out the round with five straight pars.  UCD began its day on hole number 10.

Fellow freshmen Alice Kim and Katie Sisler carded rounds of 73 and 76, respectively.  Senior Sydney Roughton totalled a 77 and junior Bryana Gregory a 78 to round out the Aggie scoring.

UCD will continue the 72-hole championship with 18 more holes on Wednesday.  The Aggies will tee off on hole No. 1 at 12:10 p.m. (PDT).
