2008 Big West ShootOut w/ DTD
The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo duo of Adam Forbes and Angela Ceccarelli were crowned the 2008 Big West Basketball ShootOut presented by Downtown Disney champions.  The finals took place during halftime of the men’s championship game of the Big West Basketball Tournament on March 15.

Scott Tanner, Director of Travel Industry Marketing for Disney, along with Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell presented the $5,000 grand prize to Forbes and Ceccarelli after the Cal Poly pair defeated UC Riverside’s Aneli Rosas and Andrew Guerra in the finals, 18-5.  The two teams advanced to the championship by scoring 24 and 31 points, respectively, in the semifinals on Friday night.

The inaugural year of the event saw 384 teams competing for the campus crowns in three divisions; men’s, women’s and co-ed.  Nine campus co-ed champions advanced to the competition’s final rounds during the Big West Basketball Tournament in Anaheim after a season-long tour around the Big West Conference.

Only current students attending a Big West university were eligible to compete.

The following teams were the champions from each campus:

Cal Poly – Angela Ceccarelli and Adam Forbes
Cal State Fullerton – Brittany Viramontes and Bryan Jones
Cal State Northridge – Brittany Blue and Bobby Moore
Long Beach State – Reika Shucart and Roge’ Nelson
UC Davis – Danielle Vera and Kevin Mullins
UC Irvine – Marike Wolters and Matt McDonald
UC Riverside – Aneli Rosas and Andrew Guerra
UC Santa Barbara – Lisa Wise and Will Schalich
Pacific – Kaitlyn Ikehara and Richard Bergstrom

The Big West ShootOut schedule for the 2008-09 season should be released this fall.  Students should ask their athletic department or recreation department for more information this summer.
