Twenty-six events will air in a packed week on BigWest.TV, as baseball and softball seasons roll into their third week, while men’s and women’s basketball enters their final week of conference play. Monday, March 3 sees the 2008 season debut of Cal Poly women’s softball on BigWest.TV. Coach Jenny Condon’s Mustangs are the defending Big West Conference Champions and were picked by the coaches as the favorite to win the conference this year. Catch the Mustangs in a double-header against
North Dakota beginning at 3:00 p.m. PST. Other softball match-ups this week include Pacific hosting
Boston
College (Wed., March 5 at 2:00 p.m.) and Cal State Fullerton hosting Loyola-Chicago (Thurs., March 6 at 6:00 p.m.).
Baseball action starts this Tuesday, March 4, when Cal State Fullerton hosts nationally-ranked UCLA at Goodwin Field. Pacific will face BYU and UC Irvine will host
San Diego on Tuesday as well, with all three games scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time. Pacific will appear two more times this week on BigWest.TV, on Wednesday, March 5 against BYU, and Friday, March 7. The Titans will host
Southern Mississippi in a series this weekend, beginning on Friday, March 7.
As a special for fans, baseball and softball this week will air free of charge, though a no-cost registration with CSTV is required.
With the final week upon the men’s basketball teams in the Big West, UC Riverside will host Pacific in the first game of the week on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. The conference race is still up for grabs as Cal State Northridge (19-8, 11-3) tries to hold on to first place. They’ll face UC Santa Barbara (21-7, 10-4) at home on Thursday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. Other games on Thursday include Cal Poly at
Long Beach
State and UC Davis at UC Irvine, with both games tipping at 7:05 p.m. Men’s hoops action continues Saturday, March 8 as UC Santa Barbara travels to
Long Beach to face the 49ers at 4:05 p.m., followed by Cal State Fullerton at UC Irvine and UC Davis at UC Riverside, both at 7:00 p.m.
While UC Santa Barbara wrapped up the Big West Conference women’s basketball regular-season title with their win over UC Riverside on Saturday, March 1, there is still Big West Tournament seeding on the line across the league. UC Davis (17-10, 11-4) will try to retain their second-seed when they play their final regular-season game at home against current third-place team UC Riverside (13-13, 10-4) on Thursday, March 6. Also on Thursday, Cal Poly will take on
Long Beach
State in another game critical to tournament seeding, while UC Santa Barbara hosts Cal State Northridge. All three games are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip time. The regular season will wrap-up on Saturday, March 8 with four games, starting with
Long Beach
State at UC Santa Barbara at 2:00 p.m., followed by Cal State Northridge-Cal Poly and UC Riverside-Pacific at 4:00 p.m. and UC Irvine-Cal State Fullerton at 5:00 p.m.
As a reminder, the BigWest.TV will carry the 2008 Big West Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments live beginning next Wednesday, March 12. Women’s coverage will extend through the semi-final games on Friday, March 14, with the women’s championship game shown on FSN Prime Ticket on Saturday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. Men’s coverage will extend through the quarter final games on Thursday, March 13, with the semi-final games shown on ESPNU Friday, March 14 and the championship game airing on ESPN2 Saturday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. Stay tuned to BigWest.TV for more information.
