Paced by senior Jessica Wilson’s season-high 21 points and junior Kat Suderman’s career-high 22, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos rolled to victory over UC Irvine, 77-69 on Saturday, February 9. The win was the Guachos’ eleventh in a row, improving their record to 15-6 overall and 10-0 in league, their best start in conference play since the 2001-02 season. UC Irvine’s two-headed monster in the post, senior Stephanie Duda (19 points, 14 rebounds) and sophomore Kelly Cochran (career-high 24 points, 10 rebounds), just wasn’t enough to overcome the torrid 54.2% the Guachos shot from the field.
After the game, Suderman discussed her surge over the past two games, which included her first double-double of the season at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, February 7. UC Santa Barbara will next take on Cal State Bakersfield at home on Wednesday, February 13, while UC Irvine will travel to UC Davis on Thursday, February 14. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. PST and will be available on BigWest.TV.
