After a couple of weeks off, the coaches from Cal Poly are back to give more insight into their teams’ seasons in their weekly press conferences from
San Luis Obispo. Leading off the trio is softball head coach Jenny Condon, whose team was picked by the slimmest of margins over Cal State Fullerton and
Long Beach
State to win the Big West Conference. Condon, the 2007 Big West Coach of the Year, will return 9 starters to her defending Big West Conference championship squad, including junior SS Melissa Pura, who was named as one of 50 players on the Amateur Softball Association’s Watch List for the 7th annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award. The lady Mustangs kick off their year on Friday, February 8 at 3:30 p.m. PST against Texas A&M in the Cathedral City Kickoff (
Palm Springs, CA ).
Also available are press conferences from women’s basketball head coach Faith Mimnaugh and men’s basketball head coach Kevin Bromley. Both teams defeated their counterparts from UC Irvine on Thursday, February 8, with the women’s team running away with an 84-65 win on the road, while the men’s team held their own at home with a 57-56 victory. The women are tied for third in the Big West Conference with UC Davis, while the men are tied for fifth with UC Irvine. Both teams return to action on Saturday, February 9. The women will travel to
Fullerton to face the Titans at 5:00 p.m., and the men will host Cal State Fullerton beginning at 7:00 p.m., with both games available on BigWest.TV.
