This week's Big West men's and women's tennis schedule features a handful of conference matchups as well as battles against ranked foes.
Three Big West women's matches are on tap, highlighted by a showdown between ranked opponents No. 68
Cal Poly traveling to No. 36
UC Irvine on Saturday. It is the Big West opener for both squads. The Mustangs then head to
Cal State Fullerton for a Sunday contest. Cal State Fullerton, which also hosts
UC Santa Barbara on Friday, will have played four league opponents in the first three weeks of the season following this weekend's matches.
Long Beach State continues its schedule laden with ranked oppositiion as the 49ers host No. 50 San Diego State. Two of the three 49er losses have come to teams ranked in the top 10 and the third loss was to No. 33 LSU last week. Despite the setbacks, LBSU comes in this week as the No. 37-ranked team in the nation.
Pacific heads to the Northwest for a pair of matches against Portland and No. 58 Oregon.
UC Riverside and
UC Davis round out the schedule by hosting Cal State Bakersfield and San Francisco on Friday, respectively. It is also the Aggies' first home contest as a Big West member.
The first Big West men's tennis showdown of the year takes place between northern California counterparts
UC Davis and
Pacific on Saturday. The Aggies look to spoil the Tigers' home opener in the process.
In non-conference matchups,
UC Irvine hosts a trio of ranked opponents in No. 27 Boise State, No. 10 Alabama and No. 33 Clemson.
Cal Poly, which has won three of its first four matches, travels to No. 21 Pepperdine in a makeup of a rained out match.
UC Santa Barbara also faces ranked opposition with its trip to No. 38 Washington.
