The Nike Cup, hosted by UC Irvine, is the featured event in this week's Big West lineup. Four Big West schools, UC Irvine, UC Davis, Pacific and Cal State Northridge, along with 19 other schools are scheduled to compete in the three-day event. The breakdown of the Nike Cup field is as follows - 23 women's teams and 17 men's teams. The women's field includes No. 14 UCLA, UC Irvine, Brigham Young, Air Force, Rice, New Mexico, Pacific, No. 1 DII UC San Diego and No. 9 DIII UC Santa Cruz. The men’s field is comprised of No. 3 Stanford, Brigham Young, UC Irvine, Air Force, Pacific, UC Davis, Cal State Northridge, No. 3 DII UC San Diego and No. 8 DIII UC Santa Cruz. The meet will be scored to 24 places in each event. This will be the first year the meet will be known as the Nike Cup after being the Speedo Cup since 1992.
The multi-day meet takes place Thursday, Nov. 16 through Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. each day with finals starting at 6:00 p.m. for both men and women.
UC Santa Barbara heads to the pool Saturday afternoon for a dual meet at Cal State Bakersfield. Both the men's and women's squads are coming off back-to-back wins over Big West foe Cal Poly and UC San Diego. The first event between the Roadrunners and Gauchos begins at 1:00 p.m.
