UC Santa Barbara senior Amy Haapanen wrapped up her college career with an eighth place finish in the hammer Friday at the NCAA Championships, gaining her All-America status.
Haapanen recorded a toss of 204-02 (62.24 meters) on her first attempt and her mark was just two feet short of seventh place. Her finish also gave the Gauchos a point in the team standings. Teammate Eugene Bradley also claimed All-America status on the men's side of the event with a seventh place finish after a toss of 213-06 (65.08 meters).
In other field events, Dashalle Andrews and Rolando Felizola of Cal State Northridge competed in the triple jump. Both could not qualify for the finals as Andrews, who won the individual crown in the long jump Thursday, finished 19th with a mark of 50-1.75 (15.28 meters) and Felizola finished 24th with a top effort of 49-6.25 (15.09 meters).
UC Irvine's Julian Eison had a tough day in the high jump as the junior was unable to record a height during Friday's finals. In the discus, Long Beach State's Jennifer Onyeagbako wrapped up the finals in 11th place after recording a toss of 163-08 (49.89 meters).
Cal Poly's Sharon Day also competed in a final as the Mustang junior finished fourth in the high jump. She recorded an effort of 6-00 (1.83 meters) along with two other competitors, but finished fourth after recording one fault more than the third place finisher.Fellow Mustang Aris Borjas also finished with All-America honors during Thursday's action as he finished third in the javelin. Borjas tallied a mark of 234-04 (71.44 meters) to pick up the six points in the standings column for Cal Poly.
In the heptathlon, UC Irvine's Lauren Collins finished up the multi event in 14th place with 5,505 points. She wrapped up the heptathlon with a mark of 5.52 meters in the long jump, 115-10 (35.31 meters) and a time of 2:17.99 in the 800-meter run.
