UC Irvine Finishes 19th At NCAA Championship

The UC Irvine women's golf team concluded the 2007 NCAA Championship in 19th place with a 72-hole total of 1241 (303-314-316-308) on the 6,351-yard LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Anteaters had their second-best round of the tournament with Friday's 308, which allowed them to move up one spot in the final team standings. Duke won the event with an 18-over 1170, besting second place Purdue by 15 strokes and third place UCLA by 16. Stacy Lewis of Arkansas captured individual medalist honors as she shot a 66 on the final day to finish at 6-under 282.

For the Anteaters, the top finisher was junior Selanee' Henderson, who placed 40th with a 16-over 304. Henderson, who led the field after shooting a 69 in the first round, recorded rounds of 80, 76 and 79 the final three days of the tournament.

Long Beach State junior Kay Hoey, competing as an individual, improved steadily with each round. She carded a 79, 77, 75 and a round of 74 on Friday to finish with a 17-over 305 and a tie for 46th place.

Other UCI finishers included freshman Patty Chawalitmetha, who came in 69th place with a 22-over 310 (76-79-80-75). Junior Kim Lorenzana shot a team-best 74 in Friday's final round, and came in 72nd place with a 311 (79-77-81-74). Junior Jane Chin tallied a 323 (83-78-79-83) to finish in a tie for 106th and freshman Henna Cho was tied for 117th at 329 (79-84-86-80).
