Both men's and women's brackets have been finalized for the 2007 Big West Tennis Championships, April 27-29 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

The UC Santa Barbara men and Long Beach State women return to defend their 2006 championships. Admission is free to the event.

The top men's seed is Cal Poly, which clinched the regular season conference title with a hard-fought 4-3 win over UC Irvine last Sunday. It is the first time in school history that the Mustangs have earned the No. 1 seed. By landing the No. 1 seed, the Mustangs received a bye into Saturday's semifinals. They will face the winner of Friday's battle between fourth-seeded UC Riverside and No. 5 seed Pacific. The other Saturday semifinal pits No. 2 seed UC Irvine against third-seeded UC Santa Barbara.

Men's matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. for the entire tournament.

If seeds hold and Cal Poly wins the title, it would be the fourth different school to capture the tournament championship in as many years at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Pacific won in 2004, UC Irvine in 2005 and UC Santa Barbara in 2006. The defending champion Gauchos have struggled through a rash of injuries this season but have been buoyed by the return of a couple of key players. Both of UCSB's losses in Big West play were by 4-3 scores to Cal Poly and UC Irvine.

In the women's bracket, four quarterfinal matches begin the championship on Friday, Apr. 27. The first two matches begin at 9:00 a.m. and involve the top two seeds. The women's bracket features three nationally ranked teams in No. 32 UC Irvine, No. 49 Long Beach State and No. 72 Cal State Northridge. The Anteaters and 49ers have been constantly ranked in the top 50 this season, while the Matadors join the rankings for the first time since Jan. 27, 2004.

UC Irvine is the No. 1 seed and meets eighth-seeded UC Riverside. The Anteaters are looking to win the first women's tennis title in school history. The Anteaters have finished in the top three in each of the last five years of the tournament. Their biggest obstacle is Long Beach State, which enters as the three-time defending tournament champion. The Anteaters have lost to the 49ers three times in the last five years in the championship match, falling in 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Long Beach State ranks third all-time in Big West history with four championships (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006). The 49ers have either won the title or finished runner-up in each of the last six seasons. LBSU is the No. 2 seed and draws seventh-seed Cal State Fullerton.

Friday's other quarterfinal matches will commence at 3:00 p.m. Cal State Northridge, the No. 3 seed, takes on sixth-seed Pacific in one match. In a battle of Central Coast rivals, #4 UC Santa Barbara tangles with #5 Cal Poly.

The two semifinal matches on Saturday, Apr. 28 are slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. The UCI-UCR winner takes on the UCSB-CP winner in one semifinal. The other semifinal includes the LBSU-CSF winner against the CSUN-PAC winner.

Sunday's championship match is a 9:00 a.m. start.
