Second Day Of NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championship

The second day of the 2007 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships in Minneapolis at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota concluded today with the Big West placing in the top 20 in four events.

The UC Irvine men's 200 medley relay team of seniors Eric Reilly and Dan Simonsen and juniors Eddie Erazo and Randall Tom finshed 12th in the event with a time of 1:27. Earlier in the three-day meet the same quartet claimed 14th place in the 400 medley realy with a time of 3:11.91.

Individually, Tom finished ninth in the 100 fly with a time of 46.71. Erazo finished 15th in the 100 back with a time of 47.61, while Simonsen finished 41st in the 100 breast with a mark of 56.00. In the 100 back prelims, Erazo finished 15th with a UCI record time of 47.27.

Heading into the final day of competition, the Anteaters are currently in 22nd place with 27 points.

Wojciech Betlej represented the Pacific Tigers in the 100 back and teammate Krzysztof Zoldak competed in the 400 individual medley. Zoldak, swimming in his second event of the meet, finished in 23rd place in the 400 IM with a time of 3:55.63. In his first event of the championship meet he false-started in the 200 IM and was disqualified.

The 100 back was the first of two events for Betlej. In Friday's action he finished the 100 back with a time of 48.65 to finish in 29th place.

UC Santa Barbara’s Pat Cary broke his own Gaucho record in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 47.23, placing him 18th. He secured a spot in the finals after his prelim time placed him as the second alternate.

The final day of the NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship concludes Saturday with prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. and finals starting at 5:00 p.m. (PST).
