The start of a new era and a repeat champion were the themes at the 2010 Big West Cross Country Championships as the UC Davis men and UC Santa Barbara women claimed the crowns. The races were held at the Ag/Ops Course in Riverside, Calif., and hosted by UC Riverside.

The Aggie men won their first title in men's cross country at the Division I level, outlasting the homestanding Highlanders 64-66. It also marks the first title won by a team other than Cal Poly since 2002, ending a seven-year Mustang reign. Third place belonged to UC Santa Barbara with 70 points, while Long Beach State ended up in fourth with 76 points. Fifth place was Cal Poly with 90 points, with UC Irvine (119), Cal State Fullerton (199) and Cal State Northridge (248) wrapping up the men's standings.

Individually, Jon Peterson of UC Davis won the men's 8K with a time of 23:40.2, while Chad Hall of UC Riverside was second in 23:57.6. The Aggies' Calvin Thigpen was next at 24:25.1, while Matt Maldonado of Long Beach State (24:27.2) and Carl Dargitz of Cal Poly (24:28.2) rounded out the top five. Next was UCD's Jon Sees at 24:30.6, UC Irvine's Colin Hacker at 24:31.7, LBSU's Bret Hasvold at 24:37.1 and the UCSB duo of Juan Paredes (24:38.8) and Isadore Herrera (24:39.6).

The Gaucho women won their second consecutive title and sixth title since 2003. They finished with 35 points, just two more than Cal Poly. Third place was registered by Long Beach State with 72 points, while UC Riverside came in fourth with 117 tallies. UC Davis came in fifth with 144 points, followed by UC Irvine (149), Cal State Fullerton (154), Cal State Northridge (207) and Pacific (290).

Amanda Moreno of UC Santa Barbara blazed her way to a course and Big West record time of 19:57.0, a little over 12 seconds better than the previous mark held by former Gaucho Danielle Domenichelli (20:09.3). Moreno's teammate Breanne Strenkowski was second at 20:22.7, while Crystal Reed made it a 1-2-3 Gaucho finish at 20:26.2.
