2008 was another banner year for Big West cross country as the league witnesses several milestones and solid results across the board.

The 2008 cross country season officially came to a close Monday as the NCAA Championships were held in Terre Haute, Ind. The Big West had the Cal Poly men's team and two UC Davis individuals on the women's side in action at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

One team on the men's side and two individual athletes on the women's side advanced to the NCAA Championships following their performance at the West Region meet. The Cal Poly men's contingent will make its third straight trip to the national meet via at-large selection, while two UC Davis women's runners made the field as at-large participants.

After taking a week off following the Big West Championships, the league's cross country clubs head to the Bay Area for the NCAA West Region Championships. The meet is being held at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., and hosted by Pac-10 power Stanford University.

Cal Poly and UC Riverside saw their stellar seasons continue to get recognition today as the Mustangs claimed three major Big West cross country awards, while the Highlanders claimed two individual honors.
