Hawai'i Captures First Big West Tournament Title
The No. 1 and No. 2 matchup between UC Irvine and Hawai'i was how tournament championships are suppose to go. The four-time defending champs, UC Irvine hosted the 2013 Big West Women's Water Polo Tournament for the first time, looking to win the title again for a home crowd. But first year conference foe, Hawai'i was determined to take it all. Both teams shared the regular season title, splitting in the two matchups they face each other in this season.
An overtime win went to the Warriors, a goal with just 44 seconds left in the second overtime period by senior Monica Eggens to seal the deal for the Wahine in a 5-4 victory against UC Irvine. Eggens was later named Big West Tournament MVP as Hawai'i captured their first ever Big West Tournament title in their debut season in the Big West.
