The 2010 Big West Women's Soccer Tournament will again feature the top four teams in the final regular season standings, with the champion earning the Big West's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.  The semifinals take place on Thursday, November 4 on the campuses of the two highest seeded teams.  The highest seeded team advancing from the semifinals hosts the championship game on Sunday, November 7.

UC Santa Barbara has captured the Big West Tournament championship on penalty kicks for two straight seasons.  The Gauchos won the penalty kick shootout, 5-4, against Cal Poly in the 2009 championship game after the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtimes.  UCSB defeated CP in the semifinals and Long Beach State in the championship to win the 2008 event - both via penalty kicks.  It is the third time in the last four tournament games that UCSB has won in PK's. 

The Big West initially held a postseason tournament in 1996 and 1997, but did not conduct one from 1998-2002.  The tournament eventually returned in 2003 and the 2010 edition will be the 10th overall in the conference's history.
