Long Beach State claimed its fifth straight title with a 4-0 victory over UC Irvine in the finals of the Big West Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. It was the sixth championship overall for the 49ers, tying them with UC Santa Barbara for the most women's tennis titles ever by a Big West program.

The six championships have come in a seven-year period for LBSU. The win raised LBSU's record to 19-6 and earned them the Big West's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. UCI fell to 16-9 on the year.

LBSU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with quick wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to collect the doubles point. Hannah Grady and Stephanie Bengson swept Inna Agababian and Becky Bernhard, 8-0, at No. 1. Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton posted an 8-2 victory versus Ali Borowicz and Jessica Broadfoot.

In singles, the 49ers captured victories at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions to wrap up the 4-0 sweep. Bengson notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Agababian at No. 2 and Armstrong followed suit with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 against Clare Fermin. Freshman Stephanie Jeanes clinched the match with her win at No. 4, as she defeated Brooke Bartlett, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

The top-seeded UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team wrapped up its third consecutive championship Sunday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, defeating No. 3 seed Pacific by a 4-0 score.

It was also UCSB's fifth men's tennis championship in the last seven years, and sixth overall. The six titles put the Gauchos in a second place for most all-time by a Big West program.

UC Santa Barbara grabbed the doubles point and a 1-0 lead with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Alex Konigsfeldt and Josh Finkelstein rolled to an 8-2 win against David Gonzalez and Austin Kakar at No. 2. Jack Hui and Anders Dalskov clinched the point with their 8-3 triumph at No. 3 over Artem Gramma and Vegerd Veskimagi.

The Gauchos pushed their advantage to 2-0 when Max Taylor defeated Kakar by a 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 6 singles. Philip Therp gave UCSB a 3-0 advantage, toppling Moritz Starke, 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 1 position. Clinching the match for the Gauchos was Hui at No. 3, as the senior fought off Renan Delsin to win 6-3, 7-6 (5)

The win raised the Gauchos record to 15-9 and earned them the Big West's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Pacific concluded its season at 11-12.

DIRECTIONS TO INDIAN WELLS Take Interstate 10 Freeway towards Palm Springs. Exit the I-10 Freeway @ Washington. Make a right onto Washington, heading south of the freeway approximately three (3) miles to Miles Drive. Turn right onto Miles and proceed around the venue to the back parking lot.
