Long Beach State 1, Notre Dame 0
Long Beach State's Brooke Turner continued her dominating perfomance as she went the distance and shutout the visiting Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1-0 on Friday evening at the Long Beach Invitational at Mayfair Park. With the win, the 49ers improved to 13-7, while the Notre Dame fell to 7-8.

It was a scoreless game until LBSU's Jennifer Griffin began the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff single to left. She scored on Notre Dame's Brittney Bargar wild pitch in the bottom of fifth which gave the 49ers the only run in the entire game. Turner improved to 9-2 on the season with her three-hit shutout over the Irish. The 49ers managed just one hit in the game off the Irish's Jody Valdivia (1-3).

In the first game of the day, Michelle Batts doubled home Tammy Williams in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting eighth-ranked Northwestern (11-3) to a 6-5 win over Rutgers (6-4). Williams was 3-for-5 in the game with two runs scored and pitcher Lauren Delaney picked up the win to improve to 9-2.

Game two saw a pitcher's duel between UCLA's Angelica Selden and Virginia Tech's Angela Tincher. Selden (11-1) tossed a one-hit shutout, while striking out seven, to lead the second-ranked Bruins (21-2) to a 1-0 win over the 24th-ranked Hokies (12-7). Krista Colburn was 2-3 with the game-winning RBI in the third inning. Angela Tincher (6-3) took the loss for the Hokies,allowing just three hits while striking out 15.

Game three saw Virginia Tech (13-7) scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 9-0 win over Rutgers (6-5). The Hokies' Misty Hall and Jess Hodge combined for four runs and Elly Gosby earned the win as she improved to 1-1.

In the fourth game of the day, UCLA (22-2) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning en route to a 3-2 win over the Irish (7-7). Notre Dame tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a home run by Ashley Ellis. The Bruins pushed over a run in the top of the seventh inning as Gionna DiSalvatore brought in the game-winning run. DiSalvatore was 3-4 with all three Bruin RBI. Megan Langenfeld (3-0) got the win for UCLA.
