Springfield, MO (Sports Network) - Caleb Patterson scored 16 points off the
bench to lead the Missouri State Bears to a 78-65 victory over the Pacific
Tigers in the title game of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at the JQH
Arena.
Kyle Weems added 14 points and eight rebounds for Missouri State (24-12),
while Nafis Ricks posted 13 points, to go along with five assists. Will
Creekmore and Adam Leonard tallied 10 points apiece in the win.
Demetrece Young netted 17 points for Pacific (23-12), while Joe Ford
contributed 16 points. Sam Willard finished with a double-double of 10 points
and 10 rebounds, while Allen Huddleston also chipped in 10 points in the loss.
The Bears had a slim two-point lead late in the first half, but the Tigers
clawed out a 13-5 run to close out the opening frame with a 35-29 advantage.
Pacific earned a lead at the break by posting a 50.0 percent shooting effort
from the floor, which included a 5-of-7 clip from behind the arc.
Pacific led through the first 10 minutes of action in the second stanza, but
the Bears evened the score at 50 apiece and never looked back, as they
outscored the Tigers, 28-15, down the stretch. Missouri State, which connected
on 17-of-23 attempts from the foul line in the second half, also made an
impressive 60.7 percent of its shots from the floor.
Missouri State shot 57.4 percent in the contest, and also dominated the Tigers
in the paint, outscoring Pacific by a 38-24 margin.
