Pacific 75, Cal State Northridge 73
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Miah Davis hit two free throws with 5.1 seconds
remaining, leading Pacific to a 75-73 win over Cal State-Northridge in the
championship game of the Big West Tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Guillaume Yango led Pacific (24-7) with 22 points and eight rebounds. David
Doubley added 14 points and Tom Cockle had 13 for the Tigers, who earned their
third tournament title in school history and an automatic berth in the
upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Ian Boylan scored 22 points for the surprising sixth-seeded Matadors, who
upset top-seeded Utah State on Friday in the semis. Eto Onyenegecha
contributed 12 points and Davin White 11, but it was not enough to help
Northridge win in its first trip to the tournament final.

Second-seeded Pacific finished the regular season with a 17-1 conference
record and tied atop the league standings with Utah State. Despite their
impressive credentials, the Tigers had to use every last ounce of energy to
pull out this victory.

With an early 19-point lead long gone, Pacific had the ball in Davis' hands
with the game tied and just seconds remaining. Despite having just three
seconds left on the shot clock, Davis was fouled by White as he started to
drive. An 85 percent foul shooter for the season, Davis calmly nailed both
free throws to put Pacific ahead with five seconds left. White then took the
inbounds pass, raced down the floor and launched a last-second three-point
attempt that fell harmlessly to the floor.

Pacific stormed out of the gate in this one -- quite a contrast from the quick
hole they dug against Idaho in its previous game -- to open a 28-9 advantage,
with Cockle scoring seven points during the run. The Matadors struggled
mightily shooting the ball, keeping them from getting into their patented
1-3-1 pressure defense.

Just when it looked like Pacific would run away with the contest, Northridge
got going late in the first half. Boylan was the catalyst for the Matadors as
he struck for the final nine points of the half to help reduce the deficit to
37-29.

The Tigers shot a ridiculous 63 percent (15-of-24) from the floor in the first
half, but still only led by eight after the late charge.

Pacific had all the answers to everything that was thrown at them in the
second half, until two clutch three-pointers in the final 1:30 by the Matadors
evened the score at 73-73, setting the stage for Davis to do his damage.

Game Notes: The Matadors lost all three meetings with the Tigers this season...Pacific's
bench was outscored by a 15-4 margin...Doubley added seven assists in the
win...Northridge shot just 33 percent in the first half. They did, however,
hit 52 percent of its shots in the second half...Davis finished with 11
points.
