Cal State Northridge 63, Utah State 62 Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Joseph Frazier hit a three-pointer in the
closing seconds to lift Cal State-Northridge to a 63-62 upset of 22nd-ranked
Utah State in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the
Anaheim Convention Center.

Ian Boylan scored a game-high 27 points for the sixth-seeded Matadors (14-15),
who earned their third straight victory and advanced to the conference title
game against Idaho or Pacific. Frazier added 13 points.

Spencer Nelson posted 19 points for the top-seeded Aggies (25-3), who had a
four-game winning streak snapped, but will still likely gain an at-large bid
to the NCAA Tournament. Jason Williams contributed 11 points.

Davin White added 10 points for Cal State-Northridge, which scored eight
straight points to overcome a six-point deficit down the stretch. His free
throws staked the team to a 60-58 lead with less than two minutes to go.

A basket by Mark Brown around the one-minute mark capped a four-point flurry
and staked Utah State to a 62-60 edge.

But Frazier responded with the winning shot on the ensuing possession for the
Matadors, hitting from the top of the key with 29.6 seconds to play.

Cardell Butler attempted the Aggies' final shot as time wound down. Williams
pulled down an offensive rebound, but couldn't get a shot off before time
expired.

After falling behind 7-5 early, the Matadors mounted a 21-6 surge. A layup by
Thomas Shewmake with just over five minutes left in the first half put them
ahead 26-13.

However, Utah State rallied to get within 29-28 late in the half. Nate Harris
capped the 15-3 run on a layup with about a minute to go.

Cal State-Northridge built a 34-28 lead at halftime. Boylan led all scorers
with 17 points at the break.

Less than four minutes into the second half, two foul shots by Shewmake put
the Matadors ahead 46-37.

Utah State responded with a 12-2 flurry to go ahead. The Aggies scored 10
straight points, including two three-pointers by Williams, and took a 49-48
edge midway through the second on two free throws by Brown.

Two foul shots by Boylan put the Matadors ahead 50-49 with less than nine
minutes to go.

The Aggies regained the lead with a 9-2 burst. Nelson delivered a layup with
just over four minutes to play to cap it and put them ahead 58-52.

Game Notes: Cal State-Northridge posted its second win in the all-time series with the
Aggies, who hold a 9-2 advantage...Utah State, which fell to 24-21 all-time in
the conference tournament, will miss the title game for the first time in five
seasons.
