Riverside, CA (Sports Network) - Varnie Dennis tallied a game-high 31 points
and pulled down nine rebounds in helping to lead the Mustangs of Cal Poly-SLO
to a 97-95 overtime victory against the Highlanders of UC-Riverside in Big
West Conference action from the Student Rec. Center.

Kameron Gray added 21 points, six boards and a team-best six assists, while
Shane Schilling tallied 19 points before fouling out for the Mustangs (9-14,
4-11 Big West), snapping a five-game slide.

The Highlanders (8-15, 5-10) were led by Nate Carter with 24 points and eight
rebounds in their third consecutive setback. Rickey Porter came off the bench
to add 23 points, while Vili Morton posted a double-double with 16 points and
a game-high 12 rebounds in the losing effort. Mark Peters accounted for 14
points, shooting 4-of-5 beyond the arc, and chipped in six assists before
fouling out.

The teams played a tight first half, but Cal Poly's 65.4 percent accuracy from
the field proved to be just enough to get the team a 43-41 lead at the
intermission.

The Mustangs cooled off to 55.2 percent in the second half, which eventually
led to an 84-84 tie at the end of regulation.

In the extra session Riverside made just 1-of-5 from the field, compared to 5-
of-7 for the Ponies who took the two-point win on the road.

Cal Poly finished the night shooting a stellar 61.3 percent from the field and
7-of-16 beyond the arc, but made just 14-of-25 at the free-throw line in
allowing the Highlanders to stay close.

Dennis has now scored 1,522 points in his four-year Mustang career, placing
him third on the all-time list.
