Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Casey Cook scored a game-high 15 points and
hit a pair of crucial free throws in with 18.4 seconds left in regulation,
giving the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos a 61-60 victory over the UCLA Bruins in a
non-conference tilt from Pauley Pavilion.

Cook converted 6-of-10 attempts from the field for the Gauchos (5-2), who
recorded their fourth straight victory. Josh Davis was the only other UCSB
player to finish in double figures, scoring 13 points.

T.J. Cummings paced the Bruins (3-2) in defeat, scoring 14 points on a perfect
5-of-5 shooting from the floor. Dijon Thompson chipped in 13 points for UCLA,
while Cedric Bozeman added 10 points and six assists in the losing effort.

UCLA went on a 15-9 run midway through the first half of play, helping it to
take a 35-31 advantage heading into the break.

The Gauchos used an 11-2 run near the halfway point of the second period, to
propel themselves to the nail-biting one-point victory.

UCSB shot 52.2 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent from behind the arc,
while also winning the battle on the boards 25-20 and forcing UCLA into 17
costly turnovers.

This was the first time that the Gauchos have ever beaten the Bruins, as it
had failed in its previous 18 attempts prior to this contest.

Cummings made his return to the court tonight after missing the team's first
four games of the season. He was reinstated just hours before the tip-off, as
he was ruled academically eligible after receiving notice that he had passed
all of his fall classes.
