UC Santa Barbara 98, Cal State Fullerton 95
Fullerton, CA (Sports Network) - Cameron Goettsche hit for 18 points and
played a big part in keeping UC-Santa Barbara involved as the Gauchos captured
the 98-95 win over Cal State-Fullerton in Big West Conference play from Titan
Gym.
Goettsche, who tied for the team high with seven rebounds, knocked down a
critical three-point shot late in the first overtime period to keep UCSB
(14-10, 8-7 Big West) alive.
Also scoring in double figures for the Gauchos were Cecil Brown (17 points),
Casey Cook (15), Branduinn Fullove (13) and Josh Davis (12) off the bench as
the team snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Titans (9-15, 5-10) also had five players score in double digits, led by
Bobby Brown who finished with 23 points off the bench, thanks to 7-of-12
shooting behind the three-point line. Pape Sow contributed 21 points, hitting
all but one of his 16 free-throw attempts, and pulled down nine rebounds in
the losing effort, the third in a row for the unit.
Yaphett King added 15 points and six boards before fouling out, while Anthony
Bolton and Hardy Asprilla chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The
latter also cleared a game-high 11 rebounds in 41 minutes of reserve action.
Despite shooting 52.4 percent from the field, the Gauchos trailed at the end
of one period of play, 40-32, as Fullerton made 10-of-11 at the charity
stripe.
In the second half the Titans made only 1-of-7 from behind the three-point
line and hit a total of just eight field goals, but continued to feast at the
free-throw line (15-of-23) in knotting up the contest at 72-72 at the end of
regulation.
Both teams had minor scoring runs in the second overtime period, but in the
end it was a pair of free throws by Fullove with 11 seconds to play that
sealed the win for the Gauchos.
Both schools recorded season highs for free throws attempted, Santa Barbara
going 32-of-45 while Fullerton was 27-of-39 on the night.
