Utah State 59, UC Irvine 56
Irvine, CA (Sports Network) - Mark Brown scored 17 points to lead 24th-ranked
Utah State to a 59-56 win over Cal-Irvine at the Bren Events Center.

Spencer Nelson added 14 and Nate Harris contributed 12 points for the Aggies
(24-2, 16-1 Big West), who have won four straight and 21 of their last 22
games in the conference.

Utah State, which suffered its only conference loss of the season at Pacific,
leads the Tigers by one game for the Big West Conference lead.

Ross Schraeder scored a game-high 20 points for the Anteaters (11-15, 6-10),
who have dropped nine of their last 11 games. Stanislav Zuzak netted 14 in the
setback.

The game went back-and-forth early in the second half and Schraeder's three-
pointer with 12:37 remaining gave Cal-Irvine a 38-37 lead. However, the Aggies
scored the next six points, capped by Brown's jumper, to claim a 43-38
advantage with 9:22 left.

Utah State stretched its cushion to 48-40 on Cardell Butler's three-pointer
moments later, but Zuzak's three-pointer with 6:10 left in the game brought
the Anteaters within five at 50-45.

Schraeder's deep three-pointer with 2:32 left in the game trimmed the gap to
54-51, but Harris then made one free throw to widen the lead to four points.
Schraeder then drove the lane and scored on a layup to bring the Anteaters
within two. He was also fouled on the play, but missed the free throw.

The Aggies then scored four straight points, all by Brown, to grab a 59-53
lead with 48.4 seconds left. Cal-Irvine got within 59-56 on Schraeder's
three-pointer in the final 20 seconds and it had a chance to tie the game
after Brown missed both foul shots.

However, Schraeder's three-point try at the buzzer was off the mark.

Utah State grabbed a 13-7 lead on Harris' jumper with 15:10 left in the first
half, but Zuzak's basket nearly five minutes later brought the Anteaters
within two at 15-13. Cal-Irvine finally drew even at 20-20 on a pair of free
throws by Schraeder with 3:20 left in the half.

The Aggies then scored five of the final seven points of the half and carried
a 25-22 lead into the locker room. Harris scored seven points, while Zuzak
netted nine for the Anteaters in the opening 20 minutes.

last 30 contests overall...The Aggies have won three straight in the series
