Saint Joseph's 73, Pacific 55 Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Delonte West poured in a game-high 22
points as 10th-ranked Saint Joseph's beat Pacific, 73-55, at Alumni Memorial
Field House.

West's backcourt mate Jameer Nelson chipped in with 15 points for the Hawks
(9-0), who are off to their best start since the 1964-65 team opened the
season with a 10-0 mark.

Nelson overcame a sub-par first half and finished with six assists and seven
boards.

Chet Stachitas added 14 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting from the
field -- all in the second half.

Saint Joseph's defense provided a spark with 14 steals in the contest, led by
Tyrone Barley's four thefts.

Pacific was led by Christian Maraker's 15 points and eight rebounds. Tyler
Newton contributed 11 points for the Tigers (4-6), who have lost four of their
last five games. Maraker was solid defensively as well, blocking four shots in
the game.

It was a closely-contested game early on as Saint Joseph's took a six-point
lead at 20-14 with under eight minutes left in the first half. Pat Carroll,
who scored five points on the day, hit two free throws to create the margin.

Pacific's David Doubly stroked a three-pointer, his only points of the game,
to make it a 20-17 game. After the Hawks' Dwayne Jones scored on a hook shot,
Carroll drained a long three-pointer to push the score to 25-17 with 6:30
remaining.

The next several moments saw both teams exchanged buckets as the half wound
down. Jasko Korajkic drained a three-pointer for the Tigers to cut the deficit
to three points at 30-27 with three minutes left.

Pacific then went scoreless in the final 2:57 of the half. The Hawks took
advantage of the Tigers' drought and scored the last five points of the half
to carry a 35-27 advantage into the locker room.

West scored 13 first-half points on 5-of-8 shooting for the Hawks.

West's dunk to open the second half increased the Hawks' lead to 10 points at
37-27. Pacific would not let the game get out of hand and hung around in the
first seven minutes of the second half.

After West hit a jumper to make it a 44-33 game, Pacific scored five straight
points. The quick 5-0 run brought the Tigers to within six points at 44-38
with 13:55 left.

Stachitas' three-pointer gave the Hawks some breathing room at 47-38, but the
Tigers converted two baskets in row to move within five points at 47-42.

The Hawks then went on a short 6-0 burst to pull ahead at 53-42 with under 10
minutes left. Nelson accounted for four points during the spurt. Pacific cut
the deficit to nine points, but it never threatened the rest of the way.

The Hawks would build a 67-51 cushion on West's two foul shots with three
minutes remaining and coast to the victory.

Game Notes: The Hawks opened last season with a 7-0 mark before losing at Pacific...Saint
Joseph's owns its highest in-season ranking since the 1965-1966
season...Pacific's only previous matchup with a ranked team this season
resulted in a 13-point loss to Duke...The Hawks have scored 70 or more points
